Bordered by a warren of narrow streets lined with pubs, cafés, and restaurants, this hotel faces a small square, and is 400 metres from the central train station. Dam Square, Royal Palace, and Nieuwe Kerk are all within 500 metres of the hotel.
Amsterdam is a cosy city, with a flurry of winding streets, tall, narrow houses, and cute bridges popping up over the array of canals. Strolling through the markets, past the design-led cafes, and the boutique shops is like stepping back in time to a world where cobbled streets ruled and friendly faces were around every corner. There’s a wealth of art and design throughout the city too, with a number of galleries, studios, and museums showcasing the creative atmosphere of Amsterdam. Fit in with the locals by hiring a bike and whizzing alongside trams, over humped bridges, and into the labyrinth of cool, quirky streets. And, afterwards, soak up the intimate ambiance with one of our apartments in Amsterdam, where you can stay in a budget flat or boutique holiday rental in the centre of all the action.
Pros: We were very pleased with this hotel. More importantly, my wife liked the room. She tends to be a germaphobe so when she was impressed it makes the trip much more pleasant. The room was very nice and clean. The breakfast that was included was also nice. The woman who prepared the breakfast was very polite nad professional. If we go to this area again we will definitely stay at this hotel again.
The best area to stay in Amsterdam will depend on what you’re visiting for: history and culture, epic nights out or a bit of both. We’ve put together a quick guide to the best places to stay in Amsterdam, and some of our favourite hotels in each area.
Cons: No cotton washcloths No alcohol on the premises Small refrigerator No ice? Limited dining in the area Must take a taxi to/from airport or port, the train is too far to walk with luggage The price the hotel quoted us for the taxi was incorrect. The taxi companies charged more.
“Great location. From Schiphol airport 12 minute train ride to RAI station. Less than 5 minute walk from Amsterdam RAI through the tunnel/walking path to the hotel. RAI station is well connected and is 10 min ride from city centre. Very clean, modern and comfortable rooms. Super friendly and helpful desk staff that provided us a map and some good spots to visit (especially Elina, I hope I spelled your name right!) Overall great value; would certainly return!”

Even though the city is small, there are so many things to see. Rijksmuseum is amazing. And the food courts nearby carry delicious treats. Try the waffles with soft ice cream, or the French fries. Buy tulip bulbs and different cheeses. Get a daily pass from the machines on the bus stops and travel freely for an entire day for about €8. Watch out for bicycle paths as there are plenty of bicycles and it does take some getting used to.
This B&B boutique hotel is in the city’s 9 straatjes (9 streets) area, which is famous for its excellent shops. This hotel’s suites and apartments are very quirky, the perfect base for those interested in art and vintage style.
Perect for the people who want to enjoy best night life, beers, wines and ofcourse some red light fun. This place has lot of historical buildings, museums, good shopping opportunities, farm life and windmills. Lovely place
Cons: Room had odd shaped useless bedside tables. Counter was the only shelving facility in the room. Not enough for toiletries, phone/charger, wallets etc. we ordered dinner in the room and had no where to place the dishes except if we removed our stuff or ate on our laps. Most uncomfortable design. Hotel was located 15 minutes away from the charming city hub (on foot). Overall it didn’t add any good impression to make it worth returning to.

Hi, I would just like to say that the apartment was fantastic. The location was second to none, it was spacious and clean, and the check in/out was quick and easy. The owner was very friendly and kept in contact. I will definitely be using this accommodation again, provided it is available !!. Thanks

This lively hotel is right in the middle of the Red Light District. The rooms (and apartments) are decorated with playful touches like graffiti, vibrant wallpaper and neon lights. The hotel’s bar regularly hosts DJ and live music nights.

More adventurous visitors might be intrigued by the city’s famous red light district, in the old town area, with its window displays and sex shops. Despite initial reservations some may have, the area has a strong police presence and is populated by a range of people, from hen parties to tourists, seeking amusement and titillation more than anything else.
From the charming canal belt (grachtengordel) to the lively Red Light District, and from buzzy Rembrandtplein to the more peaceful suburbs of the Oud Zuid – Amsterdam has a district and a pace to suit every traveller.
De Pijp, Amsterdam’s “Latin Quarter,” is a trendy residential area with an abundance of cafés, bistros, shops and restaurants. This bustling neighborhood lies between Museumplein and the River Amstel and hosts the city’s oldest street market, the Albert Cuypmarkt. Picturesque Sarphatipark is a pretty oasis in de Oude Pijp – a haven of calm in the middle of this lively neighborhood. View hotels.
Aanrader!”

Two of the best places to try hand-made stroopwafels are a little café called Lanskroon, in the centre of the city, and from the vendor in Albert Cuypmarkt who makes them from fresh throughout the day.
“Geen warm ontbijt, maar dit verwachtten we niet voor de voordelige prijs. Wel genoeg variatie. De croissants waren heerlijk. We mochten heel vroeg inchecken. Aan de balie waren ze zeer vriendelijk en helpvol. Tramhalte aan overkant, met tram 14 vlot naar centrum Amsterdam. Mogelijkheid om ticket openbaar vervoer in het hotel aan te kopen.”

Famous for its museums, most important of which are located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam offers you a chance to see unforgettable masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan and more. The Anne Frank House is a sobering reminder of the city’s more recent history. After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.
Cons: Everything, price way over priced for area and quality of room and amenities. My wife and I stAy in hotels 30 nights a year and this was by far the worst in the last five years And we average between $80 to $140 a night with better everything. VERY DISAPPOINTED
Bekijk hotels.
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Amsterdam and couldn’t have asked for a better hotel. Very comfortable, immaculate, great location, incredibly friendly and professional staff. Would definitely recommend this hotel for pleasure or business trip.
Cons: Entering the correct date on my inquiry did not translate to a correct check in date at the hotel. I arrived and was treated like I had oozing leprosy by the odd and very unfriendly clerk. He offered no help in trying to figure out what happened, and tried his very best to try to burn us on a “singularly available” room. This after he just informed someone he had 26 rooms open. Several guests were gathering behind us watching this whole show this character put on. No kayak, no hotels.com, no microtell ever again for us.
TV/cable did not work. We called to have it fixed, was assured someone would come to look at it. No one did; kitchen equipment was inadequate, for example only 2 teaspoons; narrow bedrooms require crawling in and out of bed from the foot of the bed. One bathroom overhead light didn’t work. Kick plate under kitchen counter attached with tape and kept falling down.
Cons: Price, cable was poor, no breakfast included. I stayed in a Hyatt Place in Arizona for half the price, same/better amenities, with a hot breakfast included. Obviously Hilton was gouging based on limited competition and seasonally high demand (Holland Tulip Time).
Shop till you drop at Amsterdam’s most luxury shopping street, PC Hooftstraat, the most popular street market at Albert Cuyp or in the fancy design shops of the Jordaan district. Famous pancakes and frites with mayonnaise are a must-try! The more adventurous traveler might want to try the pickled herring, followed closely by a local beer.
